Full methodology

A survey snapshot

2020–2024 ACS five-year estimates describe Census place boundaries, not ZIP codes or metro areas. Income is in 2024 inflation-adjusted dollars. Rent includes utilities; home value covers owner-occupied homes. Estimates have sampling uncertainty, especially in small places, and are not current asking prices.

Work & education

Employed residents count civilian employed people age 16+. Unemployment is civilian unemployed residents divided by the civilian labor force age 16+; labor force participation is the total labor force divided by the population age 16+. Both describe residents, rather than the number of jobs located in a place.

Education percentages use the population age 25+. Bachelor’s or higher includes graduate and professional degrees; high school or higher includes GED and all higher credentials. These survey estimates do not measure current job vacancies or school quality.

Mapped amenities, with limits

Overture Maps Foundation and contributors · release 2026-10-21.0. Distinct listing IDs are counted per category where their point intersects the selected place boundary, including boundary points. Nearby listings outside it are excluded; a shared-boundary point may appear in both places.

Listings may be missing, duplicated, outdated, or misclassified. Zero means no matching mapped listing; it does not establish that an amenity is absent. Park listings do not verify public access. Counts do not measure quality or walkability.

Unavailable is a useful answer

Missing, suppressed, or invalid estimates display as “Unavailable.” Census upper and lower bounds retain their + or − notation, such as $250,000+. Homeownership is owner-occupied units divided by occupied housing units. These values are context for your research, without a score or ranking.
